Mountain Bird and Loquat. A Poem by Richard L. Weissman

Mountain Bird and Loquat

Chinese mountain bird's white belly hungers for sweet,
the fragrant yellow loquat magnets him.
Steady perched midst fragile gnarled branches,
near enough to feed,
yet he wavers uncertain,
black eyes quick dart all round
ever mindful,
ever searching
lest he fall prey.
He longs for safety of nest
but loquat's aroma and sun-yellowed color again call.
Bravely he beaks through downy, red-blushed skin
emboldened by succulent, tangy sweet white-yellow flesh
he repeats until full.
Now soars skyward to home
readies for night
while broken, sun-yellowed loquat remains
exposed brown seeds weep ever earthward
sacrificial in dimmed light.

“Now” & “Silent Habitation” Poems. “Scavenger–Holding the Earth” by Johnston, Anowe & Kaminski

Melissa D Johnston-scavenger-150 ppi

“Scavenger–Holding the Earth” Melissa D Johnston

Now

in a wry humorous light
i grow older than i was
a pinch of a breath ago

the preciousness of every day
fades with each passing thought
with every coming and going
of a crow cawing at my broken window

farther and farther i drift into eternity
drift through the fallow fog
that has hidden my share
of existence and identity

there’s a despair standing astride
the threshold of my soul
what ceremony of words or deeds
like a daunted wind could blow
this bodily heap of tragedy…

God
’tis your hand that owns
the knife and cocoyam

–JK Anowe

Silent Habitation

’tis your hand that owns
the flesh i now inhabit
bones and skin

sometimes seem more
like an affliction, body
a weight upon the spirit
instead of habitation

why does my soul
insist on traveling these
roads alone, where trees
are bare of blossom
bare of leaves

empty of chameleons
of birds and birdsong

God
’tis your hand that strums
the small notes from their
throats

The Seasonal Change of the Schedule at the Y. A Poem by Danny P. Barbare

The Seasonal Change of the Schedule at the Y

The
sign
on
the
glass
door

reflects
the
seasons

like
the
fields
and
trees

so
the
day
is
served
better

by
the
hinges
and
the
tic
of
the
clock.

Cleaning the House Before Company

Straightening
up
there
and
here

oh
my,
so
much
stuff
everywhere

though
at
least
it
looks
like
someone
lives
here

I
pace
myself
before
company
comes

and
have
time
to
comb
my
hair.

The Doctor’s Office

Sitting
in
the
waiting
room

a
patient
who
is
patient

knows

the
world
depends
upon
a
one
simple
smile

that
quickly
spreads
throughout
the
doctor’s
office

as
time
goes
by

and
the
door
opens.

Slick. A Poem by Robin Ouzman Hislop

Freedom’s just another word for nothing left to
Lose
, in a maze of crazy mirrors, where love
Has blown away leaving only pain. I leave
You now – a stranger to the night
– to play your part.

The role that you’re bred for, a fit nice and slick,
Like a clean cut brick into the social pyramid.
We’ve left evolution long ago to do its thing,
We’re on a make or break scene, son of man, son

Of a gun and the planet bleeds and the planet
Breathes and the planet dies, just like you do.
In the flow, flow of water, flow of time, flow
Of your dreams, or so it seems, until you wake

To find how few the grains of golden sand slip
Through your hand to the deep
, where there is no flow
Of water and time, only money and the clock.
The controlled tick tock in your rat race of time;

And your gun crying like a fire in the sun,
Where are you going to run to, when all is
Said and done, all on that day. And you tell me
Of your prayer, through your whispering stare.

We who have been closed to life since we began.
Our heritage like a runaway hearse – O human,
You will rise to touch the skies but you will leave
All other creatures behind. You will become blind

To your own mind in the infinite setting sun,
Where you were always at war between the thought
Of night and day. For you homo homunculus
Are not an exceptional monster, but you do not

Live with your own limitations, because you do not
Understand them, as what you are are. And so,
We chase our lust amidst the stars, an existence
In an empty mirror and fear in a handful of dust.

Under The Train Tracks. A Poem by Dr. Ernest Williamson.111.

In effervescent blues,
I’m a waterfall.
some vessels pass in the shade next to blades
of doves’ wings
wading with want and languid play.
Grass,
that’s what the air sends from lies.
smog is a fog of life;
a moment of honesty wrapped in squall lines of fine brass tears,
but I’m still a waterfall.
a bad splash lasting for tracks
and changing rifts in hives.

Rings and trills
splats and trash
life and rotten whatever,
air and water;
until
we
all
fall
down
up stream
over the shaved bruise.

Honey,
I’m still a bad slip of the tongue;
tacit buds of beaded meaning
lasting in the desert,
melding the prizes of cause and effect.
But you won’t reach out and touch me.
just gonna stand there and take a picture,
knowing you need to feel something good!
something common to the rhythm you hear.
Under the rust of the marriage bed,
Under the tracks of our
train.
