Art Animations by Erin Anfinson

art animations

The earliest animations were flip cards. Early movies with their jumpy screens seem more like art but animations in everybody’s mind start with a certain mouse and Disney. We think of the individual frames as art as well as the animation. Erin Anfinson is playful but introspective. It is the animation video as a whole which suggests art as the genre. The animation is art and the artist searches for a motif as in all expressions. It’s a different suggestion than Warhol’s sleeping man, and it’s simply expressed but I get it. The sleeping man may be art but it’s, well, you know, boring. Erin’s videos wake us up instead.

Music: Bach: Cello Suite No. 5 in C minor BWV 1011, Performed by Colin Carr, licensed by the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Boston (Creative Commons BY-NC-ND)gardnermuseum.org

Erin received a BA in Studio Art from the University of Northern Iowa in 2001 and completed an MFA in painting at the University of Connecticut in 2003. Her paintings, encaustic works and stop-motion animations have been exhibited in a variety of national exhibitions. We found her paintings, drawings, and her site is beautifully done.

Erin Anfinson’s You Tube Channel Erin Anfinson Films is a place to save. The graphics and images are as interesting as film and goes along with our efforts to blend the arts, often with videos.

Ya just gotta go for the cicadas, ya gotta”….Jake
I’m from Tennessee and the cicadas, especially the 17 year cicada represents, for me, the passage of time and the marking of epochs in a life. It’s a pretty long time, 17 years and we only get a few cicada awakenings and remember them we do. Like mayflies and other insects they certainly make their habits known. I like this little graphic art about the cicada. Love these images.

Harry Baker UK Grand Slam Performance Poet.

harry Baker 3

Harry Baker is the current UK Poetry Slam Champion, heading to represent the UK in the Poetry World Cup in June. He is currently Studying at the University of Bristol. He was going to do medicine before all the poetry started kicking off and he thought he wouldn’t have the time to dedicate to his craft so thought he would switch to something ‘nicer’ like German and Maths.

This has led to Prime Number Poems and Bilingual Raps, and instead of a gap year of writing, traveling and performing his time is now taken up with trying to squeeze poetry in every area of his life (including doing his German Oral Presentation in rap form.)

As part of his adventures so far, he has gone from Gangsta Maths to Dinosaur love, with wicked wordplay and rhymes often interspersed with awful puns. A member of last years brilliant Roundhouse Poetry Collective run by Polarbear, he has also performed solo all around the UK and internationally as far as Chicago, New York, Munich, Warsaw and the summer festival Circuit including Bestival, Latitude and Secret Garden Party.

Harry is also currently working towards his second One-Man show at the Edinburgh Fringe (Proper Pop-up Purple Paper People), attempting to build on last years 5-Star Rated ‘Super-amazing Mega-awesome Gap Year Adventures: Birth of a champion’

Anca Mihaela Poetry Recitations & Poems

Anca 14

My name is Anca Mihaela Bruma, I am Romanian living in Dubai/UAE. My love for poetry started when I was just 9 years old, when I registered myself to some creative poetry writing group. It was a turning point for me as I started to discover the mysteries of the written word and its impact on the readers.

Since early age, I have always viewed writing poetry as the perfect medium which is able to depict profound unfathomable complexities of someone’s life or life itself, to render into words that which is unsayable, that ineffable, which can be truly deeper than the language itself. Through my writings, as well years of readings, I always looked to seek something beyond that which was apparent to others! I was fascinated to see how different aspects of truth were transfigured by different emotions, how experiences were poetized. I pursued seeing beauty expressed in all forms of art, not just poetry; creating a “thirst” within me to explore more and more for the knowledge of the mystery beneath and beyond it, as a symbol of something greater and higher with its own power to immortalize the expressions over the years.

Outsiders Need Not Apply by David Michael Jackson

Dear [firstname]
we thank you for those words you wrote
I’m sure they were from the heart
but we are a club of peers and
good try
outsiders need not apply

that melody was realy good and
we wish you luck in
your efforts, [firstname]
but we don’t accept
unsolicited material
that’s why
outsiders need not apply

They give art lessons and
we think you should go
there seems to be a lot more
you should know
and we are going to have to say no
brought to you by
outsiders need not apply

Rant and Gallery composed of snips from art by some outsider artist named Jackson
