Winter Storm

by Marilyn McIntyre

Soft ermine hedges
and Cool Whip lawns
the feeder hides half its height
trees dusted lightly
in confectioner's sugar
the whole world a creamy delight
wind whipping treetops
howling 'round panes
fire crackling straight through the night
everything soft as
that saintly man's beard
moon shadows in unearthly light
for today God has
touched the land here and then there
changing barren to heaven's pure white.
