Cafeteria Poem

Share

The cafeteria had Formica tables
by Joan Pond

The cafeteria had Formica tables
edged in steel.
As Murphy beds,
they were neatly concealed in a wall.
The floor's wood was buffed
by Mr. Donofrio.
And it shown
as his balding head,
glowing,
to bowling alley perfection.
Sometimes,
I'm reminded of the metal desks.
They folded in upon themselves
sometimes trapping clothing;
sometimes a spirit
or two.
