MOMA Oil Painting
A close friend and influence in art, Glenn Merchant told a class, “Do museum quality work”. This had a big effect on me and I reacted with this large abstract. I put the eye in the forehead and the negative words that were in my mind. In my mind, this outburst is one of the prettiest paintings! MOMA? It’s over there somewhere. I’m over here in the real world. All of that MOMA and Louvre stuff is great, an inspiration, but wtf does that have to do with me, or any artist? Pictures in a magazine, people in a book, the in crowd. It’s over there. I’m upside down, rejected, and not good enough. What does that even mean?
