Poem Of Every So Often

                                                                                                        by Joan Pond

I merely catch a glimpse.
Not in Machu Picchu
or Tianamen Square
but in a person’s eyes
reaching mine.
Travel is defined
by a woman on the plane
handing me her last
stick of gum.
‘she could not speak English, well’.
she had spoken
so clearly.
