\r\nResort<\/strong>\r\n\r\npurple palm \r\ntrees on your tank \r\ntop       pink fingernails\r\nclutching milkshake\r\nyou sip sun\r\ndrenched    Polaroid \r\naiming into brick \r\nwall     red curtain\r\nin the breeze palm \r\ntrees    sky\r\nbehind you\r\nall of the future in front\r\n\r\n\r\nWrap Party at Arsenal Bowl<\/strong>\r\n\r\nLast time we were in this spot,\r\nwe broke glasses. on the real-or-\r\nfake (which is it?) marble table.\r\n\r\nIn my memory, the entire\r\nroom is burgundy. wine-\r\ntinted, but I won't let\r\n\r\ngo, the conviction\r\nof all that spilled\r\nthat night, my\r\n\r\nmouth, my heart,\r\nthe sticky nature\r\nof the surface\r\n\r\nthat we had\r\nyet to place\r\nour hands on.\r\n\r\n\r\nI Used to Dream I\u2019d Get So High<\/strong>\r\n\r\nLast night, I dreamt I stood\r\non a tall stack of books, gathered\r\nwith others around a roof\r\n\r\nlike we were at a dinner party.\r\nWhen I glanced down\u2013 finally,\r\nfrom the top of my tenuous skyscraper,\r\n\r\nI had to brace my shoe against\r\nthe house to keep myself\r\nfrom falling back into reality,\r\n\r\nbut I did anyway, repeating\r\nto the guests anxiety, \r\nanxiety, anxiety.\r\n\r\nI used to dream I\u2019d get so high,\r\nanything was possible. I entered a tower,\r\nbeelined to the elevator, and pushed \r\n\r\nthe button to the top. Sometimes \r\nthe platform was already ascending. \r\nSometimes the whole structure was. \r\n\r\nWhen the doors (if they existed) parted,\r\nthe view from the sky was so rich,\r\nI had to be dreaming. Deep tree greens.\r\n\r\nEternal ocean blue. I returned\r\nto this view often, but stopped\r\nnear the end of my twenties. I was \r\n\r\nitinerant at the time, my life \r\nstill an open road ahead\r\nof me. A million meanings yet\r\n\r\nto interpret. Not yet bogged by\r\na steady job but not quite steadied,\r\nliving off the promises of strangers \r\n\r\nand the engine of my Ford Fiesta, \r\nemitting exhaust into the atmosphere,\r\naccumulating. <\/pre>\n
