\"Dosteyoevsky\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\u00a0When Dostoyevsky seemed so pessimistic,<\/b><\/p>\n

\u00a0I smiled to think he\u2019d viewed society<\/b><\/p>\n

as though the false, the foolish, and the sadistic<\/b><\/p>\n

established the patterns of human propriety,<\/b><\/p>\n

with demons hovering over each decision,<\/b><\/p>\n

winking and leering, clouding calculation<\/b><\/p>\n

with appetite, with decency in derision,<\/b><\/p>\n

annihilating honesty in negotiation.<\/b><\/p>\n

Wondering at his marvellous na\u00efvet\u00e9,<\/b><\/p>\n

I recognize that diabolic brood,<\/b><\/p>\n

and ask myself how he could write all day<\/b><\/p>\n

depicting evil with exactitude.<\/b><\/p>\n

Age brings these recognitions, it seems,<\/b><\/p>\n

as nightmares shove aside our foolish dreams.<\/b><\/p>\n
