\r\nMapplethorpe<\/strong>\r\n\r\nafter Robert Mapplethorpe\u2019s Self Portrait, 1980<\/em>\r\n\r\nhalf youthful, half emaciated,\r\n\r\nhe reflects the epicene\r\nand the languishing.\r\n\r\nhis head is all shock and flurry;\r\nhis mouth a toothless brevity.\r\n\r\nhalf Madonna, half Antinous,\r\n\r\nhe reflects a decadent flower\r\nboth wilting and transcendent.\r\n\r\nhis eyes suggest a having seen,\r\ntwo eternally startled interims.\r\n\r\na princely pauper\r\nwhose aspect reflects that of\r\na parched orchid culled\r\ntoo soon.\r\n\r\npublished in Hive Avenue Literary Journal<\/em>\r\n\r\n\r\nLethe<\/strong>\r\n\r\ni am a winged thing flailing,\r\ndriven into my bovine body, and\r\nback into my savage infant soul.\r\n\r\nin the beginning, nature\r\nconceived another deadweight,\r\nand i find myself stillborn.\r\n\r\ni am forever waiting to\r\nopen my welkin eyes\r\nand outwit the brute.\r\n\r\ni want the earth wrested from me;\r\ni want no longer to acquiesce to\r\nthe stranglehold of gravity.\r\n\r\ni am forever looking forward to\r\neclipsing the round\r\nseared by fantasy.\r\n\r\npublished in Hive Avenue Literary Journal <\/em>\r\n\r\n\r\nvia crucis<\/strong>\r\n\r\n            i.<\/strong>\r\n\r\nto behold paradise\r\ngod must be heaved up,\u2014\r\nfor to become seraph\r\nis to gouge the eye out.\r\n\r\n            ii.<\/strong>\r\n\r\nalways at one remove\r\nis to be found divinity,\r\notherwise effaced\r\nby twin identity.\r\n\r\n            iii.<\/strong>\r\n\r\nriven apart\r\nby mimetic sparagmos,\r\nman is condemned\r\nto die on the cross.\r\n\r\n            iv.<\/strong>\r\n\r\nto shed the serpent\u2019s skin\r\nis but to reiterate its meander,\r\nfor conquest precedes\r\nthe bind of surrender. \r\n\r\n<\/pre>\n
