\r\nI saw a sparrow<\/strong>\r\n\r\nfor Emily Dickinson (1830-1886)<\/em>\r\n\r\nI saw a sparrow in the snow,\r\nwho hovered by a boy nearby;\r\nIt swayed a little to and fro,\r\nsmall wonders they, small wonder why.\r\n\r\nThe boy, the flautist all alone\r\namidst the misty spruce around\r\nwhere snow was so serenely sown,\r\nplayed tremolo the fairest sound. \r\n\r\nThe little sparrow lingered there,\r\nthe boy, the flautist of her soul;\r\nI\u02bell never tell wherever where\r\nthey warbled to attentive snow.\r\n\r\nIf anyone found a place so rare \r\nwould there have been anyone there?\r\n \r\n\r\nI found a soldier all too fair<\/strong>\r\n\r\nfor all the fallen in the war in the Ukraine<\/em>\r\n\r\nI found a soldier oh so fair,\r\nan apparition in the vale;\r\noh there were reasons for despair\r\nto see a face so ghastly pale.\r\n \r\nI listened for the faintest breath,\r\na hint of colour on his lips,\r\nbut was confronted with a death\r\nthe setting sun could not eclipse.\r\n\r\nI lingered there and wept a while;\r\nthe poppies seemed to mourn him too.\r\nI heard a thunder from a mile,\r\nwhere clouds assumed an ashen hew.\r\n\r\nA wounded straggler passed me by;\r\noh how I feared he too would die!  \r\n\r\n\r\nListen oh listen!<\/strong>\r\n\r\nListen oh listen! ... the tanager trills!\r\n... he arrays the blue spruce with feathers as light\r\nas gossamer fronds the forest just thrills\r\nto veil in his voice lost in the moonlight!\r\nHowever whoever alights on this place\r\nmay find my tanager\u02bes warbled refrains\r\nleave en passant over teal leaves the trace\r\nof whose emotions? ... whose tremolo strains?\r\nIs this the rare moment April declares\r\nthe season\u02bes rife for my chanson, the song\r\nthe sunrise with cirrus so silently shares?\r\n... only I, tanager, knew all along.\r\nWere I the sole tanager of your desmesne,\r\nwell, I\u02bed be voiced in your glass of champagne!\r\n\r\n\r\nThe poetry of Keats<\/strong>\r\n\r\n\"Keats<\/a>\r\n\r\nJohn Keats on his death bed, by Joseph Severn<\/em>\r\n\r\nFor W.T.<\/em>\r\n\r\nThe poetry of Keats is replete with death:\r\nan owl more ominous than a blue moon\r\nhad hooted sans merci til his final breath,\r\nas he passed away in a fitful swoon\r\nbefore the sky was flush with fading blue,\r\nbefore ambrosial roses withered, strewn\r\nbefore the autumn breeze all too wanly blew  \r\nto the long-lost score of some mournful tune.\r\nAs if the nightingale could warble love\r\nmight I implore you if her song recalls\r\nas quietly as would a cooing dove\r\nour barren prayers before the wailing walls; \r\n  I too recall my all too cherished friend,\r\n  who wasted away to an ill-timed end.\r\n\r\n\r\nHuskies Mush!<\/strong>\r\n\r\nI'll slide my sled from the frozen-in stream\r\ntowards the lake where snow rolls down me, blind;\r\nme sled is all wedged in by me husky team,\r\nwhose hunger drives em wild with single mind.\r\nThey lunge, they'll lunge in vain. What? Can't break out.\r\nMe lungs could bust with frost I'se just gulped in.\r\nMe lips all blue, I'se stiff with icy doubt. \r\nMe dogs, all panicked, tangled, yelp chagrin;\r\nI grits me teeth, jerk hard the sled, and hear\r\nthat cursed ice cave! \u201cCome on! Bust loose!\u201d, I yell,\r\n\u201cMush!\u201d, snaps the whip! Aw, we'se gotta break clear!\r\n\u201cWe'se broken out!\u201d Them huskies dash like hell.\r\nDid\u00a0we break loose? Those snapped up rapids yawn\r\nbehind us as we vanish, good as gone. <\/pre>\n
