\r\n\r\nTHE BALLAD OF FACEBOOK\r\n(a musical in the making) \r\nby Sara L Russell 26th Jan \u201923 at 21:19\r\n\r\nIntroduction\r\n\r\nOh babes I feel so bored, what can I do?\r\nI think I\u2019ll go on Facebook for a few\u2026\r\n\r\nPart 1: Flakes and Fakes\r\n\r\nLike me like me\r\ngo on and like me\r\n\u2018cause I\u2019m fluffy \r\nand I have a new book out\r\n\r\n\u2018cause I posted \r\na photo \r\nof myself as a kid\r\nwhen I had a rather fetching pout\r\n\r\nI\u2019m far more fascinating than you\u2019ll ever know\r\nlook, here\u2019s my back lawn when it was buried in snow\r\nhere\u2019s a lunchtime selfie of my latest dish\r\nhere\u2019s me next to some old photoshopped bitch\r\n\r\nOh but there\u2019s a blonde strolling by the Tiber\r\nwith her two perfect little blond boys\r\nA golden sunrise smouldering behind her\r\nYou can almost smell the spices, hear the noise\r\n\r\nYa this is me walking like a tiger\r\nby some Indian river, with the boys, \r\nOh I think someone just told me it\u2019s the Tiber\r\nThe smell was like, much grosser than the noise.\r\n\r\nBut ya thanks for the comments, all my darlings\r\nMy likes have rocketed to fifty K\r\nI\u2019ve traded up, flamingos for the starlings\r\nAnd I\u2019m having awesome nookie every day!\r\n\r\nFor all the nobodies never make my heart bleed\r\nFor I have a blog they never bother to read\r\n\r\n\r\nPart 2: Catfish and Chips\r\n\r\nLike me, like me\r\nbe smart and like me\r\n\u2018cause I have everything \r\nyour kitchen needs\r\n\r\nYou look like a munter\r\nmore than likely \r\n\u2018cause your face mask\r\ndosesn\u2019t have Nigella seeds\r\n\r\nWe\u2019re making greater riches than you\u2019ll ever have\r\nby making romance pitches to some lonely chav\r\nAnd if you don\u2019t have Bitcoin you can buy it here\r\nJust invest and watch your savings disappear\r\n\r\nOh but there\u2019s a lonely heart playing poker\r\nShe\u2019s ripe to be groomed for romance\r\nShe wants a king, but here\u2019s a joker\r\nwe\u2019ll lead her on the merriest dance\r\n\r\nYa this is me sailing on my dinghy\r\nYa I love you, even though you\u2019re ninety three\r\nThe customs officer\u2019s trying to sting me\r\nPlease send me forty smackers urgently\r\n\r\nOh they don\u2019t give a monkey\u2019s if you\u2019re sad or bereaved\r\nTell it to your bank and you will not be believed \u2026\r\n\r\n\r\nPart 3: Cool and Uncool\r\n\r\nLike me, like me,\r\nsomeone like me,\r\nmy kids don\u2019t even\r\npost here for a laugh\r\n\r\nmaybe \u2018cause when\r\nthey were very tiny\r\nI posted photos\r\nof them in the bath\r\n\r\nSo when did they decide that it was so uncool\r\nto comment on a parent\u2019s photos, as a rule,\r\nTo ever dare admit that they belong to me\r\nSince when\u2019s it cool, to disown your family?\r\n\r\nYes, this is Ken and I with Auntie Mary\r\nThe younger ones all scampered off to hide\r\nMaybe they find TicToc somewhat less scary\r\nthan Facebook, with the oldies by their side.\r\n\r\nFor now girls of eighteen are giving Botox tips\r\nAnd twenty-three year olds have silicone-plumped lips.\r\n\r\n\r\nEpilogue\r\n\r\nLike me, like me\r\nGo on and like me\r\nSome people never learn\r\n\r\nFill in your details\r\npassword or site key\r\nand sort key, and hit return. <\/pre>\n

\nSara Louise Russell, aka PinkyAndrexa, is a UK poet and poetry ezine editor, specialising particularly in sonnets, lyric-style poetry and occasionally writing in more modern styles. She founded Poetry Life & Times<\/em> and edited it from 1998 to 2006, when she handed it over to Robin Ouzman Hislop and Amparo Arrospide; Robin now runs it as Editor from Poetry Life & Times <\/em>at this site.
