To Purusha, The Little Homunculus in My Hand\/Heart<\/strong><\/p>\n

My left hand is the holder. Mascara\r\ntube, apple on the cutting\r\nboard, paper while my right\r\nhand writes. \r\n            A buttress. \t\r\n                       Not strong\r\n\r\nbut not weak, either. My left hand holds\r\na palmful of peace. The velvet \r\npouch of small rocks      \r\n                        smoothed \r\nby ancient waters, rubbed \r\n\r\nbetween thumb \r\nand forefinger.        Aaaaah. <\/em>\r\nOr the bottle of pills to unclench\r\nmy gut. Lines overlay\r\n\r\nveins overlay muscles \r\noverlay bones. A palmful \r\nof bones, held out\r\nin supplication, in valor, in terrible\r\n\r\nloneliness, delicate \r\nand powerful as the pale \r\nwing of a dove seeking \r\na place to finally rest.<\/pre>\n

Kalpita Pathak<\/strong> is an autistic poet, novelist, and advocate with a passion for research and sensory-rich details. Her work tends to explore the perseverance of hope in a sometimes despairing world, with a little dark humor and magic added to the mix. She\u00a0received the James Michener Fellowship for her MFA in creative writing and has taught at both the college level and in school programs for kids from three to eighteen. She has recently been published in\u00a0Mediterranean Poetry.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n
