\r\nThe Velut Luna poems<\/strong>\r\n\r\n\r\nStarseed<\/strong>\r\n\r\n\r\nParticles accelerate\r\nNever losing mass.\r\nNever losing energy.\r\nCold fusion brilliance,\r\ncreated in a fog of clarity.\r\nEnergy illuminated.\r\nMagic?\r\nPounds of stardust\r\ntraded for an ounce of perspective.\r\n\r\nWe all love amusement parks.\r\n\r\nDizzy and delirious,\r\nparked permanently on the ride.\r\n\r\n\r\nDust to dust<\/strong>\r\n\r\n\r\nWe\u2019re made of stars\r\ndisparate and dissonant.\r\nDay by day\r\ndoubt festers,\r\nfenestrations of fear.\r\n\r\nAnd we damn deities,\r\ndredge demons.\r\nCosmological chaos.\r\nInherent ideological clashes\r\nbirthed from cultural constructs.\r\nIdiomatic onslaught,\r\nshaped by societal mores,\r\nmoored by millennia.\r\n\r\nNihil sumus.\r\n\r\n\r\nVelut luna<\/strong>\r\n\r\n\r\nSpin the wheel\r\nVelut luna\r\n\r\nFortune favors the bold\r\nTried and true, trite and true.\r\nTherein lies the rub.\r\n\r\nSqueezing our infinitesimal selves into the lens\r\nof a long-forgotten dream.\r\n\r\nAll roads lead you home.\r\nThat\u2019s as unconditional as it gets.\r\n\r\n\r\nOpen<\/strong>\r\n\r\n\r\nSometimes I forget to breathe.\r\nCreating a vacuum seal of self.\r\nPresenting that self to the world: an unwilling taciturn tacticality.\r\nThe perceived enormity of our individual selves\r\nLost to the ether.\r\nLacking time.\r\nCreating space.\r\nWhere?\r\n\r\n\r\nRelativistic Infinity<\/strong>\r\n\r\n\r\nEffusive energy\r\nSilent fusion\r\nDominos without end\r\nA self-made loop\r\n\r\nA louped glance,\r\naskance.\r\n\r\nGolly gee. Great.\r\n\r\nGutted by greed,\r\nGouge our evil eyes,\r\nAnd hollow hearts.\r\nOur irrational ears.\r\n\r\nAs we fester in finite fallacy.\r\n\r\n\r\nOutline<\/strong>\r\n\r\n\r\nwhere to start?\r\nwhere to begin?\r\n\r\n\u201cWe need an outline.\u201d\r\n\r\nOh? Oh.\r\n\r\nOf my life. Of the complication.\r\nThe words swirl in a torrential hurricane inside.\r\nHow to order chaos?\r\n\r\n\u201cOf course.\u201d\r\n\r\nIt\u2019s only a matter of course.\r\n<\/pre>\n

Jessica Skyfield is currently a teacher. She has been a scientist, a mother, will always be a student, and worn other hats, too. Her poems seek to bring light to our struggle with our awareness of our humanity: the juxtaposition of the smallness of ourselves when viewed universally and yet the large impact each of our individual actions can have.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
