\r\n       Ode to Olivia<\/strong>\r\n\r\nOh, Olivia, during\r\nwhat disingenuous dialogue,\r\ngetting closer and closer,\r\nyou told me\r\nin that bar by the seashore\r\n\"pretty good-time girl\r\ncomes once, comes often,\"\r\neyelashes shyly lowered,\r\nthick and lustrous,\r\nlowered time and again\r\nto hide the hard eyes\r\nI knew were there.\r\n\r\nI was surprised by\r\nyour interest;\r\nvital with intent,\r\nyour lithe body\r\ntilted towards me,\r\nwhite teeth showing\r\nin a smile, breasts\r\nfirm and unfettered\r\nin your summer blouse.\r\n\r\nDelirious with your fancy magic\r\nI nearly fell off the bar stool,\r\nfell like a fairy-tale frog\r\nclear down to the bottom\r\nof the mossy well, my member\r\nswelling in your favor,\r\ntransported to\r\nto your body's joyful openings,\r\nanticipating\r\nhot and wet,\r\nthose ports of entry,\r\nthose sweet breasts,\r\nthat sweet tongue\r\nflicking between your lips;\r\npromises of things to come.\r\n\r\nO ye spermy nights of the gods!\r\n\r\nThe rune on our canoe's tail\r\nsays \"enter here, ye of little haste\"\r\nand willows brush our arms\r\nas we paddle down the river\r\nof ardor and fulfillment\r\nand coming together and\r\nwhatever else\r\nwe can muster up\r\nfrom a time of dreams,\r\nfrom the manna\r\nof this earthly paradise.\r\n\r\nOlivia, you were brown as a nut\r\nfrom a summer of sun;\r\na glamorous summer goddess\r\nthere for the taking and still\r\nit came to nothing.\r\nA change of heart,\r\na parting glance,\r\nand off you went.\r\n\r\nYour naked this I never saw,\r\nyour curly that I never pawed;\r\nalone in the majestic garden\r\nof self I sit stiff and cold\r\nas a block of ice;\r\na lonesome soldier in a sentry box\r\nwaiting for the gate to open;\r\nit never does.\r\n\r\nOlivia, you left me\r\nas you found me\r\nand just as well\r\nfor the both of us.\r\nThere we were\r\nin that bar,\r\nand there we are forever,\r\nenshrined, inscribed\r\nlike Keats\u2019 Grecian urn,\r\ngraceful outlines,\r\na frieze of some long past event,\r\nat rest in that luminous\r\nwasted moment forever;\r\nno future, no past,\r\nno time at all and\r\nwhat never happened,\r\nwhat is not there\r\njust as real\r\nas what is there.<\/pre>\n

The author has been writing poetry since he was sixteen and lives in a small town near Albany, New York. He is retired from doing whatever he was doing before he retired.<\/p>\n
