 Diaphanous, disingenuous<\/strong>\r\n\r\nParsed in the Planck intervals of me, \r\ndiaphanous, is it not you?\r\nYet impossible, disingenuous\r\nthis dichotomy: thirst\r\nafter the conjurings of sentience? \r\nParsed in the Planck intervals of me, \r\nis it not you, ineffable ? \r\nAnd yet the flood tides of rage \r\ntoss me over on the waters of life;\r\nGulf between eyes shut and open -\r\nchasing after the web of thoughts;\r\nParsed in the Planck intervals of me, \r\nis it not you, ineffable? \r\nWho do I call, dear presence,\r\nwhen called to act by the world,\r\ntrue to my being and becoming?\r\nImpossible this dichotomy:\r\ndiaphanous, disingenuous, ever <\/pre>\n
 Dear electricity, what are bulbs to you?<\/strong>\r\n\r\nDear bulb of light, \r\nwhat is electricity to you?\r\nDo you like it in your corner\r\nbeaming in your shine, or\r\nin a chandelier\r\nadorning the nights?\r\n         Dear chandelier,\r\nwhat is electricity to you?\r\nDo you like it in your throne,\r\nbrimming in your shine, or\r\nin a celebration\r\nof glory lights?\r\n        O celebration,\r\nwhat is electricity to you?\r\nDo you like it in your vestal\r\nornamentation\r\nof sundry occasions?\r\n       Ever humble unknown\r\nflowing through the veins\r\nthis elixir of life that lights up \r\nlamps, chandeliers -\r\none indivisible borderless,\r\nyet bringing a hundred\r\nfilaments to celebration:\r\n       Dear electricity,\r\nwhat are bulbs to you,\r\nchandeliers and celebrations?<\/Pre>\r\n\r\n\r\n
Darkness, darkness again<\/strong>\r\n\r\nNight goes back to night, darkness darkness again, \r\nno one cares for daylight now, when tears and stars\r\nfill up the lakes shiver sharing in our grief,\r\nwhere we sit in longing for one last time;\r\nDesolation goes back to desolation, ingratitude \r\ningratitude again, our homes too unbeautiful,\r\nLittle, too freckled to house your poise,\r\nsteps that measured out the vast;\r\nSilence goes back to silence, unfathomed\r\ngrief grief again, our hearts too frail for your love,\r\nthis hour of separation, we break our bangles\r\nuninterrupted by the beat of the dhak;\r\nInconsequence goes back to inconsequence\r\nmundane mundane again, that you must come \r\ndespite us being us, darkness darkness here:\r\nlight devoid of light and life devoid of purpose, \r\nEverything goes back to everything \r\nrudderless rudderless again, boatwoman, \r\nwho will to sing to us of the journey\r\nto the fjord of wisdom, past the gulf of the dark?\r\nNight goes back to night, darkness darkness again, \r\ndesolation goes back to desolation, ingratitude \r\ningratitude again, silence goes back to silence, \r\nunfathomed grief grief again, inconsequence \r\ngoes back to inconsequence mundane mundane \r\nagain, everything goes back to everything \r\nboatwoman, rudderless rudderless again -\r\njust a prayer of longing, for one more glance <\/pre>\n

Prabhu Iyer<\/strong> is an Indian poet writing primarily in English. A scientist by training and practice, Prabhu weaves his quest of truth, beauty and goodness into his verse. An avid student of poetry, he is inspired by the spirit of the romanticists and transcendentalists, while also being influenced deeply by figures of the avant-garde, drawing upon such movements as cubism, surrealism and magical realism in the sense of gesamtkunstwerk or 'total art'. He is also an ardent fan of popular lyrical poetry as manifested in the variegated Indian devotional, musical and film traditions. Prabhu's work has appeared in anthologies and poetry journals including the PLT and long-listed a couple of times for the prestigious Erbacce Prize for poetry. He has published two volumes of poetry, 'Ten Years' exploring the themes of love and loss, while 'The Hermit' is a surrealist collection of poems.
