 LAKE TITICACA<\/strong>\r\n\r\nI.<\/strong>\r\nThe fuchsia-orange sun\r\n  is cresting the Eastern cordillera\r\nIts colors seep through muslin clouds\r\n  & sheen upon the icy lake\r\n\r\n\r\nII.<\/strong>\r\nAcross the altiplano between\r\n  maroon worn-ribbed mountains\r\n    & bright turquoise waters\r\n\r\nShaggy-roofed adobe homes\r\n  land parceled by stone walls\r\nIn swampy pastures graze\r\n  sheep & llama, cows &\r\n    long-haired donkeys\r\n\r\nThe weekly market at\r\n  Benemerita Zepita\r\nPollera-skirted women sit upon\r\n  dwarf grass, surrounded by\r\n    their herds of livestock\r\n\r\nBeyond the distant shores\r\n  of Titicaca the snowy\r\n    Andes horizon\r\n\r\n\r\nIII.<\/strong>\r\nOn this bank of the deep\r\n  cerulean lake edged with marshland\r\nA woman, child to back\r\n  tends her sheep\r\n\r\nTotora boats anchor\r\n  amidst golden-green reeds\r\nA small boy beats\r\n  fresh-plowed earth\r\n    with a hoe\r\n\r\nOn the far side\r\n  dark copses speckle\r\n    parch hills\r\nGhostly into the clouds rises\r\n  that snow-capped range  <\/pre>\n

Wandering troubadour Lorraine Caputo <\/strong>is a documentary poet, translator and travel writer. Her works appear in over 250 journals on six continents; and 18 collections of poetry \u2013 including On Gal\u00e1pagos Shores<\/em> (dancing girl press, 2019) and Escape to the Sea<\/em> (Origami Poems Project, 2021). She also authors travel narratives, articles and guidebooks. In 2011, the Parliamentary Poet Laureate of Canada honored her verse. Caputo has done literary readings from Alaska to the Patagonia. She journeys through Latin America with her faithful travel companion, Rocinante (that is, her knapsack), listening to the voices of the pueblos and Earth.
