{"id":7861,"date":"2022-10-17T23:03:53","date_gmt":"2022-10-17T23:03:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.artvilla.com\/plt\/?p=7861"},"modified":"2022-10-17T23:03:53","modified_gmt":"2022-10-17T23:03:53","slug":"fair-play-as-the-stars-give-and-take-a-poem-by-tony-martin-woods","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.artvilla.com\/plt\/fair-play-as-the-stars-give-and-take-a-poem-by-tony-martin-woods\/","title":{"rendered":"Fair Play (As the stars give and take)  A poem by Tony Martin-Woods"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><\/p>\n<pre>Roaring Applause\r\n<ul>\r\n\u201cThe future belongs  \r\nto those who believe \r\nin the beauty of their dreams\u201d<\/ul>\r\ncried the politician, \r\nto the excited crowd\r\nof tender eyes\r\nhit by a trembling sunset\r\n\r\nRoaring Applause\r\n\r\nIt was an evening \r\nof sweat, joy, hope, \r\ncheers, banners,  \r\ndrinks, hot dogs, \r\nmobile pics, \r\nflags and burgers, \r\naccidental rubbing \r\nof bodily parts, \r\nhuman communion, \r\nsiblings in arms,\r\nshoulder to shoulder,\r\netcetera, etcetera\r\nand vice versa\r\nall over again\r\n\r\nThey go home\r\n\r\nnow, the event \r\nhas been consumed,\r\nempty all around \r\nplastic \r\ntall walls  \r\nplastic \r\ncheap stands \r\nenclosure  \r\nformerly green \r\nground of pride\r\ncovered \r\nwith dead litter\r\n\r\nNo burial\r\nor cremation\r\nin this funeral \r\nof dusk.\r\n   \r\nSigh\r\n \r\nThe happy cleaner \r\nin charge  \r\nof clearing \r\nsingle-handedly \r\nall the mess  \r\nwent on to the silent stage   \r\nand shouted\r\nhusky non-binary\r\nvocal chords      \r\neyes cast on the sky: \r\n\r\nSigh \r\n\r\n<ul>\r\nI am the only owner  \r\nof my sexual fantasies \r\nwith any of you\r\n \r\nMy brain is mine,\r\nperhaps a glorified gut,\r\nwho knows\r\n\r\nEvery shot \r\nor scene   \r\nthat I project inside my head\r\nwith my genitalia-powered \r\ncamera \r\nwith my solo heart-pumped  \r\nstreaming \r\nbelongs solely to me\r\n\r\nNo intellectual property! \r\nNo performance rights! \r\nNo subscription fees! \r\n \r\nBring your own clothes, \r\nor make use \r\nof any  \r\nof my free  \r\nunlimited costumes  \r\nin my free  \r\nexclusive \r\nstaff \r\nundressing room\r\n \r\nI solemnly promise\r\nI will not broadcast  \r\nnor disseminate \r\nany footage whatsoever,  \r\nso, please, \r\ndon\u2019t worry about pain  \r\nor shame,  \r\nor the pertinence \r\nor aesthetics   \r\nof our postures: \r\n \r\nWe all shall be healed \r\n \r\nin my dreams \r\nlonely \r\nwe love each other, \r\ndeep,\r\nin full, \r\nas one <\/ul>\r\n\r\nFair play \r\n\r\nMeanwhile,\r\nhigh up,\r\nneutron stars \r\nthinking themselves\r\nas discreet hunters\r\nfall prey\r\nof inverse matter\r\nof no colour\r\nunthought of\r\n\r\nFor our light \r\nthrough darkness \r\ncomes  <\/pre>\n<p>Quote at the beginning of the poem: apparently first made, literally, by Eleanor Roosevelt, but it could have been said, and will be said in the future, by many other people. <\/strong><br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"CENTER\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial Rounded MT Bold, serif;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"RIGHT\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.artvilla.com\/100-thousand-poets-for-change100tpc-leeds-2017-free-online-anthology\/pic-for-robin\/#main\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-62172\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-62172\" src=\"https:\/\/www.artvilla.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Pic-for-Robin.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"160\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Antonio Mart\u00ednez Arboleda:<br \/>\nAntonio (Tony Martin-Woods) started to write poetry for the public in 2012, at the age of 43, driven by his political indignation. That same year he also set in motion<em> Poes\u00eda Indignada<\/em>, an online publication of political poetry. He runs the poetry evening <em>Transforming with Poetry <\/em>at Inkwell, in Leeds, and collaborates with <em>100 Thousands Poets for Change <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/100tpc.org\"\"rel\"=\"nofollow\">100tpc.org<\/a>\/. Tony is also known in the UK for his work as an academic and educator under his real-life name, Antonio Mart\u00ednez Arboleda at the University of Leeds. His project of digitisation of poetry, \u00c1rtemis, compiles more than 100 high quality videos of Spanish poets and other Open Educational Resources. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artemispoesia.com\"\"rel\"=\"nofollow\">http:\/\/www.artemispoesia.com<\/a>\/ .<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"RIGHT\">He is the delegate in the UK of <em>Cr\u00e1tera Revista de Cr\u00edtica y Poes\u00eda Contempor\u00e1nea<\/em> , where he also publishes his work as translator from English into Spanish. He published his first volume of poetry in Spanish,<em> Los viajes de Diosa (The Travels of Goddess)<\/em>, in 2015, as a response to the Great Recession, particularly in Spain. It incorporates voices of culprits, victims and heroes with mordacity and rhythm.
