The Abenaki and a Ghost <\/p>\n

I am the white ghost
\nPale skin
\nWhite shoes
\nI do not float
\nI circumvent the Abenaki crouched low
\nPicking berries from a bush <\/p>\n

One child
\nOne mother
\nOne grandmother
\nOne ghost <\/p>\n

Do We Call Them Beggars Anymore <\/p>\n

Do we call them beggars anymore?
\nThe one beneath my window grumbles
\nThe way I might have grumbled
\nWhen I, the child,
\nheld my mother\u2019s hand,
\nA financier,
\nCrossing kempt lawns and
\nArchitecture of widows watch and
\nHigh balcony
\nAnd I screaming for something new
\nSome new material.
\nI am bothered by this man beneath my window
\nAs the spoiled child bothers the eyes beyond the hedgerow
\nCarry on
\nI say quietly in my own head
\n(To telepathically communicate with
\nThe stinking rags underneath my window)
\nCarry on and never come back.
\nAnd my words go into the world
\na familiar echo
\nAgain and again.
\n
