(Life) A Poem by Antonio Arboleda (English &#038; Spanish)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Image: Calle Santo Domingo, Lorca (Spain), showing the house where Antonio was born and his mother, Lucia, in the balcony of their flat.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nLife<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nTo my father, Antonio Mart\u00ednez Manzanera, who passed away on 28 March 2021<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nYou leave behind a trail of victims.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nHow many voices,<br \/>\nunique children<br \/>\ndelivered to your light,<br \/>\ndid you end up strangling<br \/>\nwith your own hands, Life?<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nYou kept up the appearances<br \/>\ndeceiving those humans<br \/>\nwho believed themselves<br \/>\nboundless,<br \/>\nwho felt accepted by the matter<br \/>\nof an uncanny universe<br \/>\nthat turns out to be<br \/>\njust a sad arrangement<br \/>\nof rough stones and gases,<br \/>\na universe that enslaves you,<br \/>\nLife,<br \/>\nas its precarious<br \/>\nexotic whim,<br \/>\nforcing you to leapfrog<br \/>\nthrough chosen planets,<br \/>\nand drag yourself<br \/>\nin travelling theatres<br \/>\nfor your vanity,<br \/>\nand your honour,<br \/>\nLife.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nMy thinking carbon molecules,<br \/>\nthe impression of my spirit,<br \/>\nare not members<br \/>\nof any ruthless club<br \/>\nof inert particles,<br \/>\nof empty energies,<br \/>\nof graceless big bangs<br \/>\nwith no purpose,<br \/>\nwith no story to tell.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nLife,<br \/>\nif there exists a divine mystery,<br \/>\nsweet and tragic,<br \/>\nmother, parricide,<br \/>\nredeeming saviour,<br \/>\ndefying the dark,<br \/>\nclumsy ways of physics<br \/>\nthat must be you,<br \/>\nLife,<br \/>\nThat must be you.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nVida<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nA mi padre, Antonio Mart\u00ednez Manzanera, fallecido el 28 de marzo de 2021<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nDejas a tu paso un reguero de v\u00edctimas.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n\u00bfCu\u00e1ntas voces \u00fanicas,<br \/>\nhijas paridas en tu luz,<br \/>\nterminaste ahogando<br \/>\ncon tus propias manos, Vida?<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nTus apariencias enga\u00f1aron<br \/>\na m\u00e1s de uno,<br \/>\nque se crey\u00f3 sin l\u00edmites,<br \/>\naceptado por un universo<br \/>\nque resulta estar hecho<br \/>\nde pedruscos y gases,<br \/>\npor un universo<br \/>\ndel que no eres m\u00e1s<br \/>\nque lacaya en precario,<br \/>\nVida,<br \/>\ncapricho exc\u00e9ntrico<br \/>\nque de salto en salto se arrastr\u00f3<br \/>\npor planetas elegidos,<br \/>\nteatros ambulantes<br \/>\nde tu vanidad,<br \/>\ny de tu honra,<br \/>\nVida.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nNo es mi carbono pensante<br \/>\nni el esp\u00edritu de mi impronta<br \/>\nmiembro de ese club despiadado<br \/>\nde part\u00edculas inertes,<br \/>\nde vanas energ\u00edas,<br \/>\nde big bangs<br \/>\nsin prop\u00f3sito, ni narrativa.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nVida,<br \/>\nsi existe un misterio<br \/>\ny una divinidad,<br \/>\ndulce y tr\u00e1gica,<br \/>\nmadre, parricida,<br \/>\nsalvadora y redentora,<br \/>\ndesafiando las artes oscuras<br \/>\nramplonas<br \/>\nde las f\u00edsicas<br \/>\ny las qu\u00edmicas<br \/>\nesa,<br \/>\nVida,<br \/>\neres t\u00fa.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"CENTER\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial Rounded MT Bold, serif;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"RIGHT\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.artvilla.com\/100-thousand-poets-for-change100tpc-leeds-2017-free-online-anthology\/pic-for-robin\/#main\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-62172\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-62172\" src=\"https:\/\/www.artvilla.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Pic-for-Robin.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"160\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Antonio Mart\u00ednez Arboleda:<br \/>\nAntonio (Tony Martin-Woods) started to write poetry for the public in 2012, at the age of 43, driven by his political indignation. That same year he also set in motion<em> Poes\u00eda Indignada<\/em>, an online publication of political poetry. He runs the poetry evening <em>Transforming with Poetry <\/em>at Inkwell, in Leeds, and collaborates with <em>100 Thousands Poets for Change <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/100tpc.org\"\"rel\"=\"nofollow\">100tpc.org<\/a>\/. Tony is also known in the UK for his work as an academic and educator under his real-life name, Antonio Mart\u00ednez Arboleda at the University of Leeds. His project of digitisation of poetry, \u00c1rtemis, compiles more than 100 high quality videos of Spanish poets and other Open Educational Resources. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artemispoesia.com\"\"rel\"=\"nofollow\">http:\/\/www.artemispoesia.com<\/a>\/ .<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"RIGHT\">He is the delegate in the UK of <em>Cr\u00e1tera Revista de Cr\u00edtica y Poes\u00eda Contempor\u00e1nea<\/em> , where he also publishes his work as translator from English into Spanish. He published his first volume of poetry in Spanish,<em> Los viajes de Diosa (The Travels of Goddess)<\/em>, in 2015, as a response to the Great Recession, particularly in Spain.
