the hand comes down
\nand pushes me down
\nand reminds me
\nthat the wings that keep
\ntrying to break through my skin
\nare not
\nto be trusted, that wings
\nare not for me. I let the hand
\n 
\ntear out
\n 
\nthe feathers, the sinew
\nthe brave new appendages
\nthat would allow me to fly away
\nlet the hand carefully bind
\nmy broken skin
\nmy bloodied back
\nin bandages that keep
\nnew feathers from sprouting,
\nnew wings from unfurling
\n 
\novernight.
