A Mantis\u2019s Prayer
\n 
\nIn a devout moment
\nhe beseeches Allah
\nthat he not lose his head
\nover this new woman
\n 
\nYet he knows
\nhe could easily be damned
\nShe\u2019s bigger than him
\nand stronger
\n 
\nHe knows the life worth living
\nthat his brain controls inhibition
\nwhile a ganglion in his abdomen
\ncontrols the motions of copulation
\n 
\nAbsent his head
\nhe will lose self-consciousness and
\nconsummate his relationship with wild abandon
\nNo more Fuck me! Harder! Fuck me rigid!
\nNone of that will be necessary if she eats his head
\n 
\nBut Allah has heard his prayer
\nand has fed his new mate smaller
\nless significant insects before their
\nliaison
\nso she leaves him his head
\n 
\nHe fucks her royally
\nand feels satisfied
\n 
\nShe is also fulfilled
\nand feels warm glimmers of compassion
\n 
\nShe snuggles up against him
\nand they doze together
\nin the high green grass
\nthat so completely matches their bodies
\n 
\nThen, not tempting fate
\nhe slowly and quietly disengages himself
\nand hurries off
\ninto the vast corn field
\n
