If you knocked now, 23 years later,<\/p>\n

what would I tell you over tea and biscuits?<\/p>\n

I\u2019d show you my book of poems, blushing, proud,<\/p>\n

and my degree certificate. You missed them both.<\/p>\n

I\u2019d reminisce. I\u2019d remind you of the fun we had.<\/p>\n

I\u2019d tell you I\u2019ve learned to love trash telly since.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve even read a few detective novels.<\/p>\n

I\u2019d tell you I have found real love at last;<\/p>\n

she has seen me at my worst and still accepts me.<\/p>\n

I\u2019d say I think you\u2019d love her; she\u2019s my perfect match<\/p>\n

and I\u2019m happy, though not quite a grinning fool<\/p>\n

with my illness. We\u2019d have speak of that as well.<\/p>\n

I wouldn\u2019t have to tell you that your loss<\/p>\n

was like an arm hacked off that never truly healed.<\/p>\n

I wouldn\u2019t have to say it. You would know.<\/p>\n

Every hesitation, every facial tic I made<\/p>\n

would tell you what my words concealed.
