\nThe fee of the mortician, high yet negotiable,
\nreminds us of the priest – in both the cases
\ntheir soullessness owes to their knowledge,
\n‘no one occupies the temple’.
\n 
\nMy friend offers me a consoling pint.
\nThe road flows neon; people shoves people;
\nbreaths crowd my interior, and the pub too
\nbuzzes with more mobs.
\n 
\nWe take our frustration back to the road;
\nthe asphalt yawns and stretches loneliness
\nso sudden that we dither –
\n‘Where did all the people go?’
\nIt must not be more than five minutes
\nand a few winks between two swings of the pub door.
\n 
\nWe return to the pub; no one infests it any longer
\nexcept one bartender drinking his free whiskey
\nin the glassblower’s memento mori.
\n
