\nclimbs out of bed and
\nbrushes his teeth.
\nHe sees his face
\nin the mirror,
\nbut in his mind
\nhe’s already out there
\nstuck in morning traffic.
\n
\nAnd while he sits
\nin the driver\u2019s seat
\nand stares
\nat the taillights
\nahead of him
\non the freeway,
\nhe’s already at the office.
\n
\nAnd all day at the office,
\nas he squints into the glare
\nof his computer screen,
\nand glances at the clock,
\nwhile his fingers
\ntap at the keyboard,
\nhe’s home on the couch,
\ntelevision aglow,
\nglass of scotch in his hand.
\n
\nGet through the day,
\nnumb, forget,
\nand repeat.
\n
\nThere\u2019s time yet,
\nfor the real life
\nto begin…
\nmaybe tomorrow.
\n
\nYears,
\nwhole lives
\nflow by
\non rivers
\nof tomorrows.
\n
\nDeath comes for him
\nwith a shrug and a sigh,
\nlike a cat burglar
\nwho got a bad tip
\nabout a house
\nand was expecting
\nmuch,
\nmuch more.
