On a balmy summer evening<\/strong><\/p>\n

the scent of jasmine\u2019s in the air<\/strong><\/p>\n

and I sit on my balcony<\/strong><\/p>\n

counting stars \u2013 just killing time.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

I breathe the night air<\/strong><\/p>\n

and an awesome sense of comfort<\/strong><\/p>\n

comes over me.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

That taste of vanilla on my lips<\/strong><\/p>\n

such sweet essence<\/strong><\/p>\n

suddenly turns bitter in my mind<\/strong><\/p>\n

because\u2026 because\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

It was so long ago,<\/strong><\/p>\n

another time, another place,<\/strong><\/p>\n

a different moon, and peaceful nights<\/strong><\/p>\n

and you were there,<\/strong><\/p>\n

then you were gone.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Perhaps my fault,<\/strong><\/p>\n

no\u2026 no perhaps<\/strong><\/p>\n

I know it was.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Some nights, when I sit on my balcony,<\/strong><\/p>\n

I hear the sound of broken voices,<\/strong><\/p>\n

muddled bits of conversation;<\/strong><\/p>\n

so I close my eyes and dream of yesterday<\/strong><\/p>\n

when life was good<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

when we talked to each other,<\/strong><\/p>\n

and whispered little secrets,<\/strong><\/p>\n

and I wish I could hear them now.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Some nights I hear the neighbors argue.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Their voices are harsh<\/strong><\/p>\n

and I struggle to remember yesterday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

And the guy from-thirty six B<\/strong><\/p>\n

makes frequent visits to twenty-four A,<\/strong><\/p>\n

none of my business…<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve seen misery happen once or twice,<\/strong><\/p>\n

but last night,<\/strong><\/p>\n

hard to tell who was racing hell<\/strong><\/p>\n

and I don\u2019t care.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Night time is cool in my balcony.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Let the neighbors sprinkle their dust<\/strong><\/p>\n

as they go along.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Let me just dream of vanilla<\/strong><\/p>\n

and pipe tobacco…<\/strong><\/p>\n

…my own dirt\u2019s under control<\/strong><\/p>\n

neatly tucked inside tiny terracotta pots.<\/strong><\/p>\n
