Pure Air <\/span>(readings of nature and life)<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Word-painting\u00a0the sights and sounds of ephemeral scenes. Three sunsets in three different locales.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

PART 1 \u2013 COASTAL PROMONTORY<\/span><\/span><\/u><\/p>\n

.<\/span><\/p>\n

Twilight lastly wanes.
\nDarkness, like a window
\nShade, slowly descends
\nupon the surroundings\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

.<\/span><\/p>\n

Within moments a pall
\nof mist has coalesced; a
\nmoist residue feathering
\n\u2018round about\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

.
\nAlmost imperceptibly; <\/span><\/p>\n

the sounds of Gulls and
\nSandpipers drift into the distance\u2026 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mingled with a shifting of
\nocean breezes, goose-bumps move
\nlike tiny wheels, in waves of trembling, <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

up and down the spine\u2026 <\/span><\/p>\n

.<\/span><\/p>\n

Squinting eyes observe
\na diaphanous mist forming halos
\n\u2018round the shifting coruscation of
\ndistant streetlights\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

.<\/span><\/p>\n

Steady, in the northernmost parts,
\nthe moon rises from behind a transom
\nof steep ridges onto a glistening inlet\u2026 <\/span><\/p>\n

.<\/span><\/p>\n

With slivers of serpentine
\nIncandescence; moonlight hastens
\nupon the footpath in a wash of
\npallid vividness\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

. <\/span><\/p>\n

We watch, in cooling night air,
\nas the lesser light frolics on the
\nOcean\u2019s surface in ashen flames\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

.<\/span><\/p>\n

From the imbiber\u2019s pantheon,
\nacross the boulevard, laughter\u2019s cacophony
\nechoes fitfully across sand and water\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

.<\/span><\/p>\n

Slowly, the nomadic path of
\nnighttime envelopes both of us in a
\ncloak of darkened cerulean hues\u2026 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

.<\/span><\/p>\n

PART 2 \u2013 LAGUNA MEADOWS <\/span><\/u><\/p>\n

. <\/span><\/p>\n

Setting sun extends
\nshadow fingers across
\nthe vast meadows\u2026 <\/span><\/p>\n

.<\/span><\/p>\n

Broadening shadows blanket <\/span><\/p>\n

drought-parched grasses <\/span><\/p>\n

in a dimming shroud\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

.<\/span><\/p>\n

Balanced in thirds
\nand sevenths, twilight\u2019s
\nHeart tones sketch the day\u2019s
\nmemories in pallid brushstrokes\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

.<\/span><\/p>\n

Scrub-jay, Quail, Raven, Sparrow, Chickadee, <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

and Mud-hen sing exuberantly, across the lake,<\/span><\/p>\n

in a chorus of salient transition\u2026 <\/span><\/p>\n

\nThese nocturnal cantatas
\nwrap the soul in a chorus of
\nelevated harmony\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

.<\/span><\/p>\n

Remembering sunlight\u2019s warmth; <\/span><\/p>\n

soaring affections succumb to <\/span><\/p>\n

the panoptic chill of eventide\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

.<\/span><\/p>\n

With the threshold crossed,
\ntwo spirits spread their wings
\nand take flight into the radiance
\nof an unsullied moon\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

PART 3 \u2013 ACTIVITY ABOARD THE BARQUE – SUNSET<\/span><\/u><\/p>\n

. <\/span><\/p>\n

Across far-flung horizons –
\nbelow the suns apex – hues
\nof late afternoon commingle with <\/span><\/p>\n

the easily swayed aspects of moments\u2026<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

.<\/span><\/p>\n

Burdened from rising pressures,
\nsurface water furrows like wrinkled
\nold fruit, as storm-clouds form west
\nalong the Northern Shorelines\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

.<\/span><\/p>\n

Aboard the wooden Barque: <\/span><\/p>\n

passenger\u2019s rollick on the leeward deck<\/span><\/p>\n

where beamish stewards serve snacks, and
\nbudding libertines eyeball possibilities\u2026 <\/span><\/p>\n

.<\/span><\/p>\n

The measured clicking of heels echo<\/span><\/p>\n

near the fo\u2019c\u2019sle where eager faces float socially;<\/span><\/p>\n

and where, in shifting breezes, the long flaxen <\/span><\/p>\n

hair of youth hover\u2019s naturally\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

. <\/span><\/p>\n

A resonance of laughter widens
\n\u2018round long-stemmed flutes; amber
\nliquid splashing drops along rounded
\nglass edges smudged with lipstick and spit\u2026<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

. <\/span><\/p>\n

The eyes and ears draw all these<\/span><\/p>\n

darting fragments (of sight and sound) <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

into the mind, so the adventurous soul can \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

paint with words in subtle or bold images\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

Time takes us there,
\nwhere light and dark commingle,
\nwhere hope and fact ignite the flames
\nof understanding, and where each
\nbreath is present and past\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

. <\/span><\/p>\n

Continually morphing, in light and shadow,
\nthe line of night traverses the rounded surface.
\nSlowly, in fluid motion, the once resplendent sun
\ngradually dips down into another time of respite\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

BIOGRAPHY<\/span><\/p>\n

Richard is the progeny of Swedish and Norwegian immigrants. He was born in Chicago Illinois. Richard began his journey into the arts at age six. For twelve years he played classical trumpet. The British incursion of music, however, influenced him to put down the trumpet and take-up acoustic and electric guitar, and, to write songs and lyrics. He toured professionally for ten years. In 1995 Richard was privileged to design and build his own Midi-centered Recording Studio ~ Taylor & Grace ~ where he worked diligently until 2002. During that time he composed, and multi-track recorded, over 500 compositions and has two CD\u2019s (\u2018WHAT LOVE HAS DONE\u2019 and \u2018THE PATH\u2019) to his personal credit.
\n.
\nRichard\u2019s interest in writing continues. His poetic\u00a0invention is integrative and employs various elements: nature, history, relationships (past and present), parlance, alliteration, metaphor, characterization, spirituality, faith, eschatology, art, and subtext. Avoiding the middle-road; he enjoys the challenge of poetic stylization: Rhythmical, Poetic\/Prose, Triolets, Syllable formats, Story-Poems, Freeform, Haiku, Tanka, Haibun, and Acrostic. Richard\u2019s work has been (and is) featured in a wide variety of anthologies, compendiums, and e-zines including: Poetry Life and Times, Artvilla, Motherbird, and The Path. Richard was nominated twice for the Pushcart Prize.
