\nOf maybe forty feet
\nSomehow foundered and come to rest
\nIn our little harbor.
\n
\nThe crew just walked away,
\nThere were no harbor police in those days.
\nShe just sat there, listing over
\nA little more every month.
\n
\nWe boys scrambled aboard
\nAgainst our parents\u2019 strict orders
\nWhenever we could escape surveillance.
\n
\nWe were looking for treasure
\nOr guns, or cigarettes,
\nOr naked women, sprawled and helpless.
\n
\nThe best we ever found
\nWas a couple of hunting knives
\nAnd some black-and-white mens\u2019 magazines
\nThat didn\u2019t show as much as we could see
\nSneaking past big sister\u2019s bathroom.
\n
\nIn retrospect it was kind of a waste
\nBut at the time it was stranglingly exciting.
\n
\nThe thrill of the chase,
\nOf the unknown,
\nOf the infinitely possible.
\n
\nIt never recedes. Never.
\n

\nAndrew Hubbard was born and raised in a coastal Maine fishing village. He earned degrees in English and Creative Writing from Dartmouth College and Columbia University, respectively.
\n
\nFor most of his career he has worked as Director of Training for major financial institutions, creating and delivering Sales, Management, and Technical training for user groups of up to 4,000.
\n
\nHe has had four prose books published, and his fifth book, a collection of poetry, was published in 2014 by Interactive Press.
\n
\nHe is a casual student of cooking and wine, a former martial arts instructor and competitive weight lifter, a collector of edged weapons, and a licensed handgun instructor. He lives in rural Indiana with his family, two Siberian Huskies, and a demon cat.
