\n Time to retire now, ladies,
\n the drawing room awaits
\n as the gentlemen go to smoke
\n and drink brandy
\n or tell ribald stories
\n unsuitable for a lady’s delicate ears.
\n Time to work on our embroidery
\n or retire to bed.
\n The men shall retire whenever they wish,
\n and the stars are too many for us to count.
\n Now we must lie abed
\n dreaming of Mr. Darcy
\n or perhaps a future career,
\n If only one’s gender
\n might permit such a thing.
\n 
\n  <\/p>\n

Time to adjourn now, ladies,
\n Mrs. Pankhurst has said her piece
\n and the rozzers are coming
\n to break up our meeting of like minds.
\n I heard that she was in prison for a time,
\n and went on hunger strike!
\n oh yes, my dear,
\n I heard they beat her,
\n force-fed her
\n then left her to cry alone in her cell.
\n Only she didn’t cry. She never cries.
\n They say one day we women
\n will be able to vote!
\n Yes, of course it could happen.
\n We deserve it, after all.
\n 
\n  <\/p>\n

Time to adjourn now, people,
\n it’s been a long session
\n and even ministers need a lunch break.
\n Mrs. Thatcher no doubt will carry on
\n making notes for yet another meeting,
\n I don’t think that woman ever sleeps.
\n Even if she never does,
\n she has razor-sharp concentration
\n and a sharper mind.
\n You don’t want to get
\n on the wrong side of that one.
\n Funny, years ago,
\n they never dreamed we’d have
\n a woman Prime Minister.
\n Not everyone agrees with her
\n yet few dare to disagree.
\n

\n to discuss, too serious for our lowly ears.
\n Theirs is the sun and the daylight
\n ours are the shadows that herald the dusk.
\n Gather your prayer beads
\n and lower your gaze.
\n Do not look into the eyes
\n of the Imam as you pass by
\n on the way to your rooms.
\n Do not let any breeze from the window
\n displace your veil.
\n Guard your modesty
\n at all times;
\n protect your respectability,
\n for it is all you have in the world.
