Laughing
\nwith delight,
\nwe thought we saw
\na vision of blood
\nTurn to wine…
\n 
\nIt’s a story told
\nin silence and pictures,
\nwhere everything we say
\nsounds like the spatter
\nof falling rain,
\nthe sound of weariness
\nbeating a drumbeat
\non old concrete,
\nAnd its brittle beauty
\nmakes the cracked
\nphotographs
\nin our album of memories
\ndance
\nwhile we feel like children
\nat a tea party
\nwith ghosts, pouring our hearts,
\na piece at a time,
\ninto empty porcelain cups.
\n 
\nOur timid smiles
\nare splintered
\nbreaks
\nin the face
\nof a laughing clock.
\n“See how sharp,”
\nthe timepiece said,
\nticking.
\n 
\nA vision of light
\nat the tunnel’s end
\nfails to lead us
\nfrom the dark,
\nSaviors and Angel Wars,
\nBurning bushes
\ncalling out numbers
\nat an endless game
\nof celestial Bingo,
\nAnd God’s reflection
\nlooks out
\nfrom the fruit punch,
\nlaughing from inside
\nthe crystal serving bowl,
\nWe can’t believe in such things,
\nbecause we feel like children
\nat a tea party
\nwith ghosts, pouring our hearts,
\na piece at a time,
\ninto empty porcelain
\ndemitasses.
\n 
\n“See how sharp,”
\nthe timepiece said,
\nticking.
\n 
\nAnd we darkened few
\nlaugh with needle-sharp joy.<\/strong>
