\nLand of the flies
\nwho scrape the paint
\noff of barnyard doors
\nwith fingernails of lace
\n 
\nAmerica
\n 
\nCamel cigarette
\nbutts lining the crevices,
\nreminding us to
\ntake pride in our
\ndeath
\n 
\nLand of the trees,
\nthe oceans, and the
\nsnow; covering us like
\na whale song sung from
\nthe bleachers of Wrigley field
\nin \u201989
\n 
\nAmerica
\n 
\nScarface gangsterish
\nslang aimed at our throats
\nwhile revolutionaries paint
\ntheir stories on box trains
\ndestined for the great beyond
\n 
\nLand of the stolen coffee bean
\nwith all of its richness fueling
\nour neurotic skull contents in
\nthe bleak December rains
\n 
\nAmerica
\n 
\nSocial injustice in the form
\nof Television, telling us a tale
\nas old as time; oppression
\nas an old, raggedy flag drenched
\nin the blood of sacrificial lambs
\nwho never got to see the pasture
\n 
\nLand of the bombs, the guns,
\nand the assault rifle speeches
\nof sputtering, malignant hatred
\n 
\nAmerica
\n 
\nChain gang alamode
\nserved with a slice
\nof adversity in the morning
\n 
\nLand of the Cinematic
\nbloodbath and violent
\npornography with Twilight zone
\non repeat
\n 
\nAmerica
\n 
\nCrooked-nosed piety seekers
\nin rags on the streets who sleep
\nright outside the doors of the disillusioned youth
\nwho partake in Molly until their ears
\nscream and their voices listen
\n 
\nLand of the freezing
\nHome of the Rave.

Adam Levon Brown is a poet and author residing in Eugene, Oregon. He has one published poetry book out, Musings of a Madman,<\/em> which is a collection of poems made to enlighten and inspire the reader. Adam attributes his love of poetry to the many great poets he discovered in the school library during his formative years. He enjoys listening to political hip hop music and is a political activist himself.
