\nNow
\n 
\nin a wry humorous light
\ni grow older than i was
\na pinch of a breath ago
\n 
\nthe preciousness of every day
\nfades with each passing thought
\nwith every coming and going
\nof a crow cawing at my broken window
\n 
\nfarther and farther i drift into eternity
\ndrift through the fallow fog
\nthat has hidden my share
\nof existence and identity
\n 
\nthere’s a despair standing astride
\nthe threshold of my soul
\nwhat ceremony of words or deeds
\nlike a daunted wind could blow
\nthis bodily heap of tragedy…
\n 
\nGod
\n’tis your hand that owns
\nthe knife and cocoyam
\n

\nthe flesh i now inhabit
\nbones and skin

\nsometimes seem more
\nlike an affliction, body
\na weight upon the spirit
\ninstead of habitation

\nwhy does my soul
\ninsist on traveling these
\nroads alone, where trees
\nare bare of blossom
\nbare of leaves
\n 
\nempty of chameleons
\nof birds and birdsong
\n 
\nGod

\nthroats
