For G.K.J. (In her voice.)<\/em>
\n 
\nWhat is this thing called Parkinson\u2019s Disease?
\nThe sickness robs me of my body\u2019s grace,
\nand worse, it robs me of my mind\u2019s trapeze
\nfor agile thought. No longer do I ace
\nthe mental tests I used to love to face.
\nDouble vision\u2019s dogged the play of my eyes \u2014
\nso long, so much, I cry, \u201cIs this life\u2019s Prize?\u201d
\n 
\nReading \u2014 strong prizing bar to deeper thought
\nlifting the eyes above the self to see
\nwhat lies beyond the daily diddly-squat
\nof eating, sleeping, bathing, poops and pee \u2014
\nis gone. Slow living death my apogee?
\nCan\u2019t draw. Can\u2019t paint. P.D.\u2019s a heart-deep thorn.
\nI think it better were I never born.<\/strong>
