I
\n 
\nThere is a grey area between
\nthis world and the next.
\nPeople can be foolish; they dabble in ouija, in
\ndowsing, in automatic writing;
\nand – wittingly or unwittingly,
\nthey may open a portal
\nto the other side.
\nThat is how they enter.
\nBeware of inviting them in.
\n 
\nShadow people are there
\nwhere needle pierces skin; where the junkie
\nsits, glassy-eyed, on the precipice of oblivion;
\nthey lurk in unholy places where godless
\npoliticians declare themselves to be
\nspeaking for God;
\nthey haunt the dreams of drunkards,
\nschizophrenics, junkies
\nand the paranoid.
\nBut they are not spun out of dreams,
\nthey are real.
\n 
\nShadow people were there
\nwhen the ancient pharaohs of Egypt
\nwere interred, with all their gold;
\nthey took them to Hades
\nfor also burying their wives
\nand servants, alive.
\nThey were there
\nin Nazi concentration camps,
\nsitting on the left shoulders
\nof those who blindly carried out
\norders of death and torture.
\n 
\nThey subsist in underworlds of catacombs,
\nthey lurk in the spaces between
\nour conscious and unconscious minds;
\nIn blackened mirrors they seek out a vortex,
\nMy friends, be the light that
\nkeeps out the darkness,
\nDo not seek to question the dear and foregone,
\nNo matter how much they are missed;
\nfor there are others lurking in the shadows.
\nBe not the portal inviting them in.
\n 
\n 
\nII
\n 
\nDid I see you in Bohemian Grove,
\nsmiling at the Cremation of the Care?
\nWere you there,
\nand did you have more than one shadow?
\n 
\nDid I see you in that Great Hall
\nwith chequered floors,
\nwhere the Eye of Horus
\nwatched over a pyramid of gold?
\n 
\nDid you lift a cup of
\nthe good red wine,
\ndid blood brothers drink each other’s health,
\ngazing through a glass darkly?
\n 
\nDid we toast the Cremation of the Care,
\nand how many others were there?
\n 
\n

\nSometimes we visit Hell in our dreams,
\nthough we may fervently pray before sleep.
\nThere is no shame in sleeping with the light on.
\nWear a cross, if you think that it will help.
\n 
\nSometimes the citizens of Hell visit us,
\nin that stasis between sleep and wakefulnes;
\nthey are only ever seen at the outer periphery of our vision.
\nIt’s never a good idea to look at them directly.
\n 
\nSometimes they venture a little closer than the rules allow.
\nSometimes the line between their domain and ours is blurred.
\nOccasionally, the breeze seems to whisper your name –
\nonly, it’s not the breeze.
\n 
\nBe vigilant.
\nAlways try to see them first.<\/strong>

Jones was the founder and leader of the Peoples Temple, best known for the mass murder-suicide in November 1978 of 909 of its members in Jonestown, Guyana,[1] the murder of five people at a nearby airstrip, including Congressman Leo Ryan, and the ordering of four additional Temple member deaths in Georgetown, the Guyanese capital. Nearly three-hundred children were murdered at Jonestown, almost all of them by cyanide poisoning.[2]Jones died from a gunshot wound to the head; it is suspected his death was a suicide<\/em>
