\nVestiges of yesterday,
\nthe touch:
\ncontoured force of weight,
\nmap of the route,
\nstride at the beach,
\ncutting out,
\na stone figure of the story,
\nincised epicurean scars,
\nsaltwater on our feet,
\nsecond of soaked ooze,
\nlocked
\nat the moist goo,
\nto chew
\na purple behavior,
\ndrooping
\nin the swim,
\nbite the cherry,
\npelting ego
\nto climb within,
\nnecks are
\nten feet long,
\nlegs grappled
\nflapping equation,
\nanswers
\nfor the triangle,
\na shade
\nthat stirs,
\ntied on
\nwebs
\nof munched ground,
\na shrub to care,
\nstooped
\nbones
\nbuoy up crack.
\n 
\n 
\nPerpendicular
\ndrawn on spine,
\nscratched limbs,
\nsoaky meat,
\nbestowed fat,
\nsit on a roof,
\npile up cubist
\nentrails,
\nleft lobe,
\nintestines,
\nkidneys,
\nright lobe,
\nthe corpse in view,
\nburn through
\nthe drawing,
\nmemories of omitted
\nchildhood toys,
\nthe put-together valve,
\nmeat sourced from various donors,
\ncushioned
\nconstruction to press,
\nthree pieces,
\nnot at all a perfect fit,
\ndisparate dimensions,
\nblamed on size,
\npellets and screws
\nbolt the amalgamated
\nsteel
\nweighted on each step,
\nthe stride squeezes
\nour lower ventricle.
\n 
\n 
\nRoots of the walnuts
\nhanged below,
\nas support
\nthey rise
\nwatching
\ninaudibly,
\nmarvel at
\nthe burning ashes
\non the casserole,
\nfired blaze,
\ntrails on the moving picture
\nstrangers
\nguessing figures,
\nthree blackboards
\nsolve the equation,
\nplace a blindfold to sleep it off.
\n 
\n 
\nOut here,
\nthe ceiling remains
\non sketches,
\nplaced to
\nawaken at the scent,
\ntie a pendant to hang
\nthe smirched dahlia
\non a necklace,
\nscaled buds on
\nderma peel,
\nas the spit skims,
\nwalnuts are slow
\nto sprout branches,
\nlet us sit across
\nthe chalk design,
\nout of the inflated chamber.
\n 
\n 
\nA tin cup,
\npour the beverage,
\ncomb your hair,
\nthe jagged leather,
\nripped wounds,
\noutside the sewn thread,
\nour hair may want partings.<\/strong>

\nBenedict Downing has written fiction, poetry since his adolescence. He joined local community reading circles, workshops, college literary groups, and ventured into his own. Has published fiction and poetry in literary magazines and journals. He is currently working in his second novel.
