\n

\nBefore Abraham was, I am:
\nthe cubist of poets. Mangled and tangled;
\nHere thoughts emerge, in reverent perspective.\u00a0
\nHow many, the dimensions? Monotone\u00a0
\nin my unidimensions. Filter. Baritone.\u00a0
\nCoffee-brown is the best colour around.
\n 
\n2. Love
\n 
\nHere we sit by two-arms distance. To north,\u00a0
\nto south. Facing opposing poles.\u00a0
\nThere is an attraction.
\n 
\nHere are images from the industrial world\u00a0
\ngone post-industrial. Broken commodes.
\nOutsource your misery here. The sky can afford
\na hole from on here. As long as\u00a0
\nthere’s none in my shoe.
\nSometimes, I roll over in waves.
\nSometimes, you wave over.
\nQuestions still hidden in the corners.
\n 
\n3. Peace
\n 
\nAll that’s passed remains flickering
\ngreen like the wireless router
\nsilently at nights: recover, play it over.
\nFlush it all up. Splash it all around. Cubism.
\nArt nouveau. Portmanteau. Now fruck the world.
\nNeon shades rippling through the smoke,
\nlaughter like that of an empty skull:
\nsmoke the pipe, brother,\u00a0
\nspread the peace around.\u00a0\u00a02013, stupid.\u00a0
\nIdealism died in \u201867. And many times since.\u00a0
\nRepeats always a farce.
\n 
\n4. Spirit
\n 
\nOnly one man died for the poor.\u00a0
\nWho else called the dead to life?
\nAll other stories are about barons and hedgehats:
\nwhile the millions were ground over
\nto oil the world. While they roiled the world.
\nHow the poor die under the heels
\nof those that claim to love that man?
\n 
\nAgree? Take the throne. Disagree? Drone.
\n 
\nYes, we can, brother, we can defeat this
\ncorruption, bloody. Brother,\u00a0
\nbe not corrupt.\u00a0
\n 
\n5. Prospect
\n 
\nA sigh of disapproval, soft in sleep.
\nI come and lie, back to your back,
\nwaiting for love to seep over.
\n 
\nYes, we can, brother, we can overcome\u00a0
\nbigotry vile. Brother,\u00a0
\nsay not, mine, the only way ever.
\n 
\nHappy lovers day. Shout out aloud,
\npeans more to the meek women’s rights.\u00a0
\nForget not, there’s some in your sights.
\n 
\nTwo arms’ distance is about the right in the day.
\nThere are two faces seen in this bubble,
\nformed at the mouth of the tube.
\n 
\nPeace to the world, every morning after.
\nEvery little home by home.<\/strong>

\nEducated in India and England, Prabhu Iyer writes contemporary rhythm poetry. He counts the classical Romantics and Mystics among his influences. Among modern poets Neruda and Tagore are his favourites for their haunting and inspirational lyrical verse. Prabhu has also explored the meaning of modern art movements such as surrealism and cubism and their role in anchoring the society through his art-poetry. Currently he is based out of Chennai, India, where he has a day job as an academic scientist.

\nIn 2012 Prabhu collected over 50 of his poems and self-published them on Amazon Kindle: Ten Years of Moons and Mists <\/a> More recently, his 2014 entry made it to the long list from among over 5000 entrants to the annual international poetry contest conducted by the UK-based publishing house, Erbacce Press. Some of Prabhu’s poems are at http:\/\/hellopoetry.com\/-prabhu-iyer\/ His major current projects include a further volume of poetry, his first fictional novella and a planned series of translations of lyrics from Indian film music.
