\nPurple Haze purports to describe “nondescript days” but that’s just a poetic haze that subtly brings the reader to this poetry’s real clarity, which is its ability to pose questions. These poems situate the “I\/You” of the lyric’s spoken voice in a passionate, sometimes erotic, interrogation of imagination and feeling that is looking for answers. The echo is palpable while Candice James sings “‘Scuze me” while I write these poems.

\nThrough the deep purple haze
\nOf non-descript days
\nI wander aimlessly
\nThrough the hard edged corners
\nOf a compromised sky.
\n 
\nI spiral and spin
\nWithin
\nThe shimmering core
\nOf an indigo sun.
\n 
\nI become invisible
\nIn the deep purple haze
\nOf these non-descript days.
\n 
\nEmerging in blurs,
\nSmudges and tears
\nOn a universe crying,
\nA broken heart dying,
\nThe purple haze tightens
\nLike a noose.
\nI lay fallen and wounded
\nBeneath an indigo sun.
\nThirsting for your touch,
\nDenigrated by lost love,
\nI fade into the folds of the haze.

\nYou are the ghost of my past.
\nI am the vessel you haunt
\nAs the deep purple haze
\nOf my non-descript days
\nDissolves in the tears
\nOf an indigo sun
