\nall is the same in the belly
\nof the crucifix
\nonce a man
\nchewed, digested and spit out
\nmisshapen remains
\nwithout a name or memory
\nwithout ascent.

\nof sinew, muscle and flesh
\nsliced open and re-arranged
\nan offal pile
\nwhere there was a soul
\nnow none
\nwhere there was compassion
\nnow retribution
\non a butcher\u2019s hook.

\na victim of the my own conceit
