\nat the birth of your sister<\/p>\n

you paid the nurse with<\/p>\n

pesos, sat the newborn girl<\/p>\n

on a lotus and called her the buddha.<\/p>\n

 
\ni swore you were insane<\/p>\n

but you said that’s alright<\/p>\n

solstices always come in groups of three-<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\n <\/p>\n

the first is the summer<\/p>\n

when the sun is at its highest point and you<\/p>\n

are manic and we are stuck in the highest<\/p>\n

gear, the gears of this bicycle stopped<\/p>\n

working when you stopped pedaling–<\/p>\n

your kickstop is broken and you fall onto<\/p>\n

the highway but at least the white woman<\/p>\n

across the street with the crooked nose was not<\/p>\n

a doll.
\n <\/p>\n

because in the morning you hope you’ll wake up<\/p>\n

next to one and snatch an alka-seltzer;<\/p>\n

set the child down at the baby chair in the<\/p>\n

korean restaurant where you<\/p>\n

order bibimbap and burn your tongue. snap a picture.<\/p>\n

the beach is empty from the chemical spill<\/p>\n

but you can still walk the dog on the sand.<\/p>\n

the second is the winter<\/p>\n

when the sun is at its lowest point<\/p>\n

the single ring around jupiter, the arms<\/p>\n

of the girl who does not have a navel<\/p>\n

or a menarche<\/p>\n

fits so certainly around her neck<\/p>\n

like jewelry<\/p>\n

or a noose.<\/p>\n

 
\nyou can drag yourself<\/p>\n

back to the house gods<\/p>\n

and prostrate at the feet<\/p>\n

of your ancestors.
\n <\/p>\n

but can you hear the<\/p>\n

click of a gun that has run out<\/p>\n

of bullets-<\/p>\n

moonlight and moon ice<\/p>\n

because there is still water in space<\/p>\n

so we can swim along<\/p>\n

in the galaxy.<\/p>\n

the third is you–<\/p>\n

the dying embers<\/p>\n

of a hope long past-
