\n Among the stony ruins, the shadows haunting Carthage yet abide…
\n 
\nAn unforgiving heat, strangling Life
\nfrom the very air through which it pulses,
\nradiates from an ocean of sand, charring
\nthe steel of Heaven’s Gate —
\n 
\nthere is no romance in this tale,
\nthat would be a fool’s conceit
\n 
\n… and this disenchanted heart bleeds for you…
\n 
\nthis is the bleakness of a dying god,
\nmy lazy, uninspired deity,
\nslumbering
\nunder baked, dessicated soil
\nas a nomadic army of ghosts
\nmarches through the long centuries,
\nthe flesh burns, scalded
\nby the brilliant light
\nof a star suffering storms…
\n 
\nBurning memory onto the retina of the mind’s bleary eye.
\n  
\nSomething touches my hair. Wind?
\nPerhaps a Specter, lost, and wandering
\nthe labyrinthine corridors of Time.
\n  
\nNo greater fool than this, I peer into history’s chaos;
\n  
\nBonifacius fell before the fury of the Vandals,
\nthe Vandal heretic Gaeseric, in turn, fell
\nand the paretporian prefecture
\nof the Darkest Continent sundered
\nthe Mediterranean shackles of Empire
\nuntil the Muslim Caliphs wrested control
\nof the warm waters of the vast harbor
\n  
\n… and still my misshapen life weeps through this wound I bear…
\n  
\n‘Lo, hear the music of regret, my scars are singing.
\n 
\nIt’s the heat. Always and always, the furious heat.
\nBlistering. Stifling. A ragged silken gag stretching parched lips.
\n 
\nThe breezes stir from off the bay
\nand streak over the rolling waters,
\ngathering into a rushing, stormy
\nfireball
\n 
\n… searing the wound shut, closing it against the leakage of yet more blood…
\n  
\nI see the excavated dinosaur’s remains of this place,
\na warped mirrored reflection
\nlaying bare my inner desolation.
\nNaked, in a shallow puddle
\nof dried and flaking scarlet
\nyesterdays.
\n <\/p>\n
