I turned my back, defeated,
\ndestroyed, cold-shouldered
\nand colder-hearted.
\n 
\nIn solace my broken pieces returned
\nto a “puzzled” whole, locking itself
\ninside the safe of my chest (its code
\nlost in translation between sciences
\nof language and mathematics)
\n 
\n— like a thought, understood
\nbut impossible to articulate
\n(maybe for a good reason).
\n 
\nYou crack the combination;
\na virus changes DNA,
\nslithering up spiral ladders
\nwhere clarity confronts obscurity.
\nShould I self-diagnose cancer?
\nOr is your etching into my identity
\nthe continuum, the upgrade?
\nYour wit has taken over me.
\n 
\nSo far I’m the best game you’ve played
\nbut I’m getting brave, I took you out;
\nit’s my turn to swing (pitch it fast)
\n— lips to lips, make this moment last,
\nfire’s ablaze, blasting frozen past.
\n 
\nI melt like my soul’s the most
\npersistent of time,
\nmy mind’s liquefied over the wishing
\nthat someday your heart will be mine —
\nknees on concrete to propose,
\ncould anyone really want me
\nfor eternity?
\nAnd how did you feather hope
\nfrom ashes?
\nMy Imagination takes flight
\nwith that very phoenix.
\n 
\nThoughts spin-spin
\nlike a fast-ticking clock,
\nzooms through space,
\nthen it brakes, halts,
\nstopped at the wall:
\nI’m studying your face,
\nmesmerized by those eyes
\nas we stand in line
\nfor a haunted house
\n— yet the true fear is you
\nreeling me into your arms
\nand I smile, as bubbly
\nas wielded glass lava.
\n 
\n(But I like how you shape
\nwithout changing me.)

\n 
\n 
\nTyler Drescher (commonly known as “Ty”) is an aspiring entrepreneur, full-time co-manager of a local pizzeria and part-time student at Daytona State College, residing in the eastern suburbs of Orlando. Despite busyness, Ty finds time to write, his style a mix of “slice of life” and metaphor with a surreal touch. Although he writes mostly poetry, at heart he hopes to compose a novel for publication someday, exploring themes such as action-adventure, science-fiction and dystopian future. Along with writing, he enjoys playing and watching soccer and going to the gym after work. Born February 27th in 1992, he is 22 years young, still learning the ropes of adulthood, identity a work in progress. Ty hopes to be a great leader of his own business (likely in the food industry) and, at the same time, hopes to inspire others through his writing.
