\nAtop the Temple of the Sun,<\/strong>
\nbathed in radiant gold,<\/strong>
\nstarlight blasts away our masks…<\/strong><\/p>\n

i.) Kissing the Eyes of the Dead<\/strong><\/p>\n

midnight oxygen flows to earth, littered <\/strong>
\nwith dessicated pumpkin seeds<\/strong>
\nand the fading remnants<\/strong>
\nof communal nightmares,<\/strong>
\nhaunting the City Primeval,<\/strong>
\nwe dance a jingly-jangly foxtrot<\/strong>
\nacross oil-stained, debris-strewn streets,<\/strong>
\nnot daring to look one another<\/strong>
\nin the eyes,<\/strong>
\nnever catch our taffy-pulled, <\/strong>
\nFrancisco de Goya-esque<\/strong>
\nreflections <\/strong>
\nin the windows<\/strong>
\nto someone else’s soul —<\/strong>
\nit is a brittle kindness,<\/strong>
\nit is a neurotic’s etiquette<\/strong>
\n— wanting, lusting,<\/strong>
\ndesiring, thirsting<\/strong>
\nto place our lips <\/strong>
\nin icy benediction<\/strong>
\nupon the closed lids<\/strong>
\nwhere old copper pennies <\/strong>
\nare destined to rest.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n

ii.) This Pillow Of Cadavers<\/strong><\/p>\n

It’s hard to breathe<\/strong>
\n— pant? wheeze? gasp? choke? — <\/strong>
\nwhen you’re wrapped<\/strong>
\nso tightly around me, <\/strong>
\nconstricting <\/strong>
\nand yet a comfort<\/strong>
\nagainst the maelstrom<\/strong>
\nabroad the screaming face <\/strong>
\nof this shrunken head world,<\/strong>
\nwe lay our heads down <\/strong>
\non a bed of broken yesterdays,<\/strong>
\neyes happily shut <\/strong>
\nagainst the relentless<\/strong>
\nspinning<\/strong>
\nof our whirlygig minds,<\/strong>
\nseeking stillness,<\/strong>
\nwanting a suspension<\/strong>
\nof painful animation,<\/strong>
\npraying for sleep <\/strong>
\natop an altar of flesh<\/strong>
\ndecomposing…,<\/strong>
\nwe inhale and the scent<\/strong>
\nof dissolution<\/strong>
\nlulls us into dreaming,<\/strong>
\nand, finally,<\/strong>
\nour lungs grow still.<\/strong><\/p>\n

(mutter)<\/strong>
\nThe thing struggling in the mud<\/strong>
\nat the great temple’s base weeps, <\/strong>
\nfrustrated and blind…<\/strong><\/p>\n
