In darkest lakes where spirits swim –<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n
beneath the depth where starlight dims<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n
a shadow deepens midnight\u2019s tone –<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n
and drifts through water cold as bone.<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n
As morning breaks a mist holds still –<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n
above the lake that sunlight fills<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n
to find a serpent rearing high –<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n
like a rainbow toward the sky. <\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n
The creature almost caught the breeze – <\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n
that cooled the mist and swayed the trees<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n
as its body shone in lovely light –<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n
that made its ancient eyes go bright.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n

Alas, the spirits cut it down –<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n
and morning went without a sound<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n
but for the saddest cry you knew –<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n
if you were underwater too.<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n
