My skiff<\/span> – with which no ships compare –<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
has weathered storms of Ocean:<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
in blackest night the beacon\u2019s flare,<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
in steep commotion,<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
is but the one, consoling Sense,<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
the verse that shakes my Heart;<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
for Food the Ocean\u2019s Providence<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
beneath the curb of Art!<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
Thou reddening Glow! Thou blood-red Core<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
upon the Wild neglected,<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
that ghastly Shadows casts ashore<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
by Time collected –<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
within the Flame upon the Wick<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
I dream that I behold<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
my Genius dance, my Fortune click<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
with cards of Gold!<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
Hail, holy Fire! through whate\u2019er<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
perilous Seas – the Raft –<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
oh Thou! Thou burnest everywhere,<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
but not as daft<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
as Thou art faithful what Thou wilt!<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
I love the drift and sound:<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
Thou reachest but to Castles built<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
on solid Ground!<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
The Critic thought he haughtily steers<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
top-heavy, mighty Ships,<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
but with the Spirit interferes<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
from holstered hips!<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
Likewise the pious Rationalist<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
but clouds the faultless Feeling –<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
with Reasons fine as fog or mist –<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
that subtlest Reeling<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
which in my Heart of Hearts is burning!<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
Ah but my Life-raft\u2019s light,<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
and the vast Ocean\u2019s overturning<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
bury it quite<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
may never, and only upward bobbing,<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
throbs like my Adam\u2019s apple,<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
and Vision brings the Joy of sobbing<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
and makes me grapple –<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
where in the Flames She smiles and dances,<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
her hair blown by the breeze,<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
where my Beloved counts the chances<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
and me strip tease!<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
