A hard rain pelts down
\nGraying the sky to charcoal
\nThe Quay is deserted,
\nAnd somehow out of key.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I stand at the guard rail,<\/strong>
\n Collar pulled tight,<\/strong>
\n Staring at the cold river.<\/strong>
\n The wind whirls and swirls<\/strong>
\n Inviting the river into its frenzy.<\/strong>
\n The river resists, then slowly submits.<\/strong>
\n Small ripples at first<\/strong>
\n Cresting to waves;<\/strong>
\n Synchronicity somehow present<\/strong>
\n In this simple chaos.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A young girl<\/strong>
\n In a pink fleece Parka<\/strong>
\n And well worn Mukluks<\/strong>
\n Passes by;<\/strong>
\n Her eyes as vague<\/strong>
\n As fading winter sparks<\/strong><\/p>\n

The day dissolves<\/strong><\/p>\n

Night chews on the last remnants<\/strong>
\n Of a non-descript twilight.<\/strong>
\n Appetite sated,<\/strong>
\n She licks her lips<\/strong>
\n And the thunder rolls<\/strong>
\n In the bruised atmosphere<\/strong>
\n Of a hard, hard rain<\/strong><\/p>\n
