On March 21st, 2017, people got together at Half Price Books in Austin TX for a show to celebrate “World Poetry Day” mini-feature event hosted by Chicago poet Janet Kuypers. During this event, she performed a set of Lengthy World Poems on World Poetry Day, a set of Short World Poems on World Poetry Day, her “erasure poem: Corner Stone Against Slavery” (where shw took a confederate speech and “erased” portions of it to make an anti-slavery poem), and (because other features that day read poems for other poets for World Poetry Day) Kuypers also read the Carolyn Forche prose poem “the Colonel”.

On the same day as the show, she also released two online chapbooks — one of “Lengthy World Poems on World Poetry Day” and one of “Short World Poems on World Poetry Day“. These two chapbooks are the writings she read in two different reading blocks (in the order they were to be performed). She did not distribute copies of this chapbook to the people in the audience of the bookstore, but she made sure the chapbooks “Lengthy World Poems on World Poetry Day” and one of “Short World Poems on World Poetry Day“ were available online on the same day as her reading, so anyone could (and can) download both of the chapbooks “Lengthy World Poems on World Poetry Day” and one of “Short World Poems on World Poetry Day“ as a PDF file for free any time.

The theme of the night with other features was about spring (ergo the “Spring Awakenings” title), so Janet Kuypers’ show “Exploring Spring” was also accompanied by recently recorded sounds of birds chirping outside, accompanying music by “Hotel Music” from the HA!Man of South Africa (Francois Le Roux, with “entering the ruines” from his “Hotel Music”), where she also had video of him playing his cello on a small screen joining her on stage.

Janet Kuypers’ “Exalted Love” 2/4/17 poetry feature/show with background music

Below are writing links, video links and images from a February 4th 2017 (2/4/17, or 20170204) poetry performance of Janet Kuypers’ Austin poetry feature “Exalted Love” through “Greatest Love” live in Austin Texas.

The theme of the night with other features was about poetry and was about not just love (because Valentine’s Day is this month), but the “Greatest Love” , which can be interpreted philosophically in so many ways. So Janet Kuypers covered this very explicitly in her show about the love of a person, the love of nature, the love of astronomy, or even discovering the right book to bring the love of the right philosophy, bringing meaning to your life. Her “Exalted Love” show was also accompanied by music from Mozart (“the Dissonant”) rainforest sounds, and “Hotel Music” from the HA!Man of South Africa (Francois Le Roux, with “the story i am trying to tell” and “easy afternoon” both from his “Hotel Music”).

Below are video links from a September 3rd 2016 (9/3/16, or 20160903) music&nbp;/ poetry performance (with accompanying guitar and percussion music by John) of Janet Kuypers’ Austin poetry feature through Expressions 2016: September Song! at Austin’s the Bahá’í Center (at 2215 E M Franklin Ave, Austin, TX 78723) that incorporated poetry into music. This is why they started the set with their song&nbp;/ poem that they previously performed at the sold out theater show from Beast Women Rising 9/21/14 of her original Mom’s Favorite Vase song “What We Need in Life”, with her poem “Fantastic Car Crash&^#8221; nestled between verses two and three. To break up the guitar, Janet then performed her Periodic Table poem “Tin” (with Chicago locations changed to Austin Texas downtown locations, of course). But in this set the ended their show with her poem (set to John’s original song) “Made Any Difference”.
