For This Night and All Time

Sing a song of berries, holly, jolly
on soft wintry, wonderland
Christmas nights

yet
give only
equal to one grain of humanity
in comparison to a universe
   is all that is asked

could you
set aside
   the dinner party
think of travelers who wander
though not in plain sight
lost
in despair
   sick of heart

think__

wasn’t Mary seeking refuge
once upon a starry, Bethlehem night
that She may bear Her blessed child
alee amongst the beasts

do we shun
a wayward soul back into the brutal
cold
?

take heart__take sight
to cheer and aide the homeless
the nomads
the ones
who roam this night
