Christmas Vagrant

Whispers on silent mind
Snowflakes fall to wind, hair wavering -- shimmering,
Chimes dangle, tingle -- tangle
Merry on this
__ another Christmas Day

A right jolly laugh
Slaps her right ear
‘Twas a gay night for families of steadfastness
to share in laughter and satiated belly
relaxing near red-green festoon

Minus winds rap, rap, rap aimlessly,
then wrap round in cloud of angel hair snow
Piercing scantily clothed specters of this so silent night

Frozen feet find shelter in lane ways
As icicles make promise of nature’s beauty
Like diamonds that shimmer in light

Arms up to grasp one stalactite diamond
To place in her make-believe crown,
this queen of loss, queen of the lost
brakes down a shard
to gaze as a seer on its crystalline depths

There shines no future on her numbed arthritic hands
Only the past lights her eyes
As the searing cold night speaks:

Come take shelter within, sleep, oh sleep my wearied queen
Take shelter from the cruel, bitter-sweet of life

She felt the welcomed warmth as blood slowed in her veins
Aura of warmth cradled her .. in nature’s arms again.
She sleeps .. never more to weep
For she has found her kingdom at last
