OLD WILLOW

Old willow, it is with you that I reside
Aside the flowing Thompson; watching as you bend and moan
How I understand your ways of weeping

This world, this crazy world reveals its pain and anger
It fails to see the sap run from a deep impassioned heart
that now withers within its aging branches

Lackluster in your fading autumn headdress tells of loss
Lines crack the bark that once grew smooth and bright and strong
Yet grace—dignity, lingers, even as your beauty fades

I will not leave the side of one who stands misunderstood
Be proud beside your love of life
Your prowess one day will be in recognition __ old willow
