"HIS NAME WAS JAMES"

We never met
but I knew
that his time was short.

I know that he had a strength
that many of us wish we had.

Because he had to face
decades too soon

the fate that we all must face.

But most of us will have many years
to prepare for...

The fate that we all must face
in the end.

(When I wrote this poem, James was still among the living. He fought, with his entire being, the brain cancer that finally took his life. This poem and the one titled "THE STRENGTH OF ANGELS" were both inspired by James and his heroic and tremendus battle).
