Thirst for Life

Mountain winds call and whisper a name
Yet, in vain they cry out
     in lightning flashes of dance and through the forests
     of sweet refrain, of whispers in rain and out of the blue
     this flower longs to feel the warmth of the sun,
the dew on its petals

One tree, one lonely and iced over, kind old weeping birch;
     awaits as I do
She will know annual fulfillment __ yet, I will not
For my branches will not refurbish themselves
     as this old mother birch

Yet, I still live on;
To thrive in the nature of things;
that I hold so very deep, in strength of character
     and remain firmly rooted

Even though the bark is cracked
And riddled by adversities of life;
an aura, a vibrancy is there;
A lingering song on the wind __ swishing of branches,
     to conceal a weeping heart
     and leaves that hold tight, to traditions in life,
     to provide love for the fallen, and home for the flightless;
     for the fresh young birds, to try their new wings
     it is nature, with whom we all learn

Age holds a confidence, a wisdom, it is a constant
The more we age, the more we know how short life truly is
And in our hearts, we learn to treasure nature
GOD'S one grand jewel in the crown
     For we are truly HIS creation in nature
          And we thirst for our place, in this life
